John A. Zagat, M.D.
John A. Zagat, M.D., is a double board-certified physician who specializes in child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry. He provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, individual and family therapy, and medication management. With a longstanding interest in learning and learning challenges such as attention deficit disorders, Dr. Zagat is experienced in guiding adolescents and adults with learning difficulties that affect their education and careers.
Before transitioning to a career in medicine, Dr. Zagat worked in the marketing department of his family’s business. He draws upon his personal experiences to help clients in demanding careers and is especially interested in helping patients who are changing careers or pursuing additional education/training later in life.
With a strong background in telemedicine, Dr. Zagat is licensed and able to provide online therapy services in Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. He believes this modality is an important tool for improving access to mental health care for patients and their families. Before starting private practice, Dr. Zagat was an attending psychiatrist at the Behavioral Health Center at Westchester Medical Center, and an assistant clinical professor at New York Medical College. He was the primary attending for the tele-mental health department and provided support to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital and the Hudson Valley Health Alliance partial program, while also seeing patients in person at Westchester Medical Center's Valhalla offices.
Dr. Zagat received his undergraduate degree from Vassar College and his premedical degree from Columbia University. He received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and completed both General Psychiatry residency and fellowship in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He previously worked with NYU Child Study Center as an adjunct faculty member.
